In most global card games like Bridge, Spades, or Tarneeb, the trump suit is either fixed or determined through pre-deal bidding. Mindi revolutionizes this with the 'First Void' mechanism: the game starts with zero trump, and the trump suit is revealed dynamically during active gameplay.
1. What is the 'First Void' Rule?
At the start of a Mindi deal, no suit is trump. Players lead standard suits (Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs). As long as all players can follow suit, highest card of the led suit wins.
The moment any player runs out of the led suit (becomes 'void'), they cannot follow suit. This exact moment establishes the Trump suit for all 26 tricks in the hand.
2. Katte Mode (Cut Mode) vs Hukum Mode (Hide Mode)
In Katte Mode (Cut Mode): The voided player simply plays any card from their hand onto the trick. The suit of that played card immediately becomes Trump, and that card cuts (wins) the trick unless over-trumped by a higher trump card.
In Hukum Mode (Hide Mode): The dealer (or cutter) chooses a secret trump card face down before the deal. When the first void occurs, the hidden card is flipped face up, and its suit becomes active Trump.
3. Over-Trumping and Trump Following
Once the trump suit has been revealed, any subsequent trick led in a non-trump suit allows voided players to play trumps to cut the trick.
If two or more players play trump cards on the same trick, the highest trump card wins. If a trick is led with a Trump suit, all players with trumps must follow in Trump suit.

Can the dealer choose the trump suit in Katte Mode?
No. In Katte Mode, the dealer has no say in the trump. The trump suit is entirely decided by the first player who runs out of the led suit during the game.
Can a player refuse to trump when void?
In standard Mindi rules, if you are void in the led suit and trump is already open, you may choose to discard another plain suit instead of playing trump, but doing so will not win the trick.
